OpBNB Mainnet Fourier Hardfork Update
We are sharing an update with the Venus community regarding the upcoming opBNB Mainnet Fourier Hardfork, which will reduce the block time from 500 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds.
The Fourier Hardfork is scheduled to take place on Jan-07-2026 at 03:00:00 AM (UTC).

This post outlines the scope of protocol parameters that are expected to be affected by the block time change and the corresponding updates Venus plans to make, subject to approval via a VIP.
1. Background
Block time is a core network parameter that directly impacts how time-based values are calculated on-chain. Many protocol mechanics rely on assumptions about how frequently blocks are produced.
When block time changes, parameters that are defined on a per-block basis must be updated to ensure that their real-world time behaviour remains consistent.
With the Fourier Hardfork reducing opBNB’s block time from 500ms to 250ms, Venus plans to review and adjust affected parameters accordingly.
2. Scope of Impact
Similar to previous opBNB block rate upgrades, several protocol parameters that rely on block-based calculations are expected to be affected by this change and will be reviewed as part of the update.
3. Parameters Affected
3.1 Interest Rate–Related Parameters
Interest rate calculations that rely on block-based assumptions may require updates to preserve the existing supply and borrow dynamics over time.
These adjustments are intended to ensure continuity in economic behaviour rather than introduce changes to interest rate models.
3.2 Other Time-Dependent Parameters
Any additional parameters that depend on block frequency for accrual, timing, or accounting purposes will be reviewed and updated where applicable to remain consistent with the new block time.
4. Execution Plan
Venus plans to apply the relevant parameter updates before the Fourier Hardfork, once the corresponding VIP is approved.
These updates are intended to be mechanical in nature, reflecting the block time change, without modifying the protocol’s underlying incentive or risk framework.
5. Summary
- opBNB Mainnet Fourier Hardfork reduces block time from 500ms to 250ms, scheduled for Jan-07-2026 at 03:00:00 AM (UTC)
- Certain per-block and time-based parameters will be reviewed and updated BEFORE the hardfork update. Updates are intended to preserve existing real-time behaviour
- Final execution is subject to VIP approval
This post outlines the proposed scope for updating parameters affected by the opBNB Fourier Hardfork on Venus.
We welcome community feedback on this approach ahead of proposing it formally through a VIP vote.
